Art Runs in the Family

Family is very important to Kathleen. Her family is close, but none as close as these girls. Ranging within 4 years of age and with a set of twins in the bunch, there are many happy memories to pull from. How many mom's get to wake up on a Saturday morning to her children's singing and harmonizing in the background and then afterwards, a backrub for a promise of renting a movie? But then, how many families grow up without TV?

First and foremost in our lives is the exaltation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is number "one" in everything, and everything we do we can give Him the credit for. Our many gifts and accomplishments are because of His grace and love for us.

The eldest, Rebekah gave Kathleen her first grandbaby, little Aurora Rose in April of 2006. Rebekah and her husband, Robert live in Maricopa, AZ. Rebekah will be graduating from ASU with a bachelors' degree in psychology in the spring of 2008.

Rachel will soon have her transfer degree from a community college and has been training for the graphic arts field as well, but this time it also includes animation and video graphics. She is looking forward to her wedding in April of 2008.

Rachel's twin, Michelle lives in the England. Michelle's husband, Colin is in the air force and their tour of duty will be up in September of 2008, but not before Mom gets to visit.

Carolyn, is a graduate of the Teen Mania Honor Academy in Texas, and is now a student at Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma. Graphic art is in her blood too. She is training for pastoral care, writing and media arts. She has been learning video and graphic animation and website development. You can see her website at this link.

Juliana is the youngest. Cherished and quite spoiled by her sisters, this one also desires a career in art, in cartooning and illustration.

But before she begins her college career she is living with her sister and brother-in-law in England, till they come home in September. Couldn't miss this opportunity.

While at home, Rebekah, to the right, and her sisters sang together, both worship music, disney and musicals. They loved being involved in the productions at the church and the drama department and choir at the schools.

Kathleen may have raised her family as small-town girls in the mountains but as a family, can claim all of Arizona.

With parents in Phoenix, a sister in Flagstaff, a brother in Kingman, and girls all over the place the family plans special times to get together. In addition to the holidays there has always been a family reunion for about 5 days at a cabin owned by the company from which Gene is now retired from. This little cabin is dear to the hearts of everyone and some really special memories have been built there over the past 36 years.

Cabin Clan 07, due to out of state college and other responsibilities we were missing a few.
This was Kathleen's Mom's last time at the cabin before she passed over.

Kathleen's dad, Gene Redman (back left) has been a webmaster for many years and was instrumental in encouraging Kathleen to get involved when she became a single mother and started in college. Gene has set up a family website as well.

Kathleen's dad and mom, Gene and Aldean Redman, originally Oklahoman's, love Arizona for its great exploration opportunities.

Gene has been working with the Maricopa County Mountain Rescue Association and is a volunteer Sherriff's deputy.

Both, her mom and dad loved to travel and camp. They took their family all over the midwest states when the children were growing up, camping in a tent, and later a tent-trailer. Great memories of hiking, watching the black bears in the dumps, backpacking into rustic, remote log cabins, running and playing in creeks and forests, rowing a boat across the lake to a spring for get fresh water and gathering wood for a wood-burning cookstove or campfires built great memories of those years.

Aldean was a wonderful homemaker, mother, counselor, encourager, and stronghold during tough times. She sewed beautiful clothing for her family and herself. She painted the bedrooms and refinished furniture- redecorated with new curtains and bedspreads.

She made a real home for her family. She even tried to be everywhere at once, such as when she was trying to spend time with her husband and teach Kathleen to sew at the same time. She was always busy serving her family. She took in all the baby animals the kids brought home and while trying to feed them gave a gentle rebuke to the children to never do it again. But you know how that goes.

Aldean began the Arizona Association for Children with Learning Disabilities to help her own children, and was president for several years. She was always involved at her church and after the "empty nest" she became very active in the Steven's Ministry and the Bridge ministry.

Aldean was also a dispatcher for the Central Arizona Mountain Rescue Association and the Mountain Rescue Posse. She built a home business called Independent Living Products, an online catalog of helpful items to meet the needs of the elderly and disabled. Gene built and ran the website. This business was eventually sold, and is now a much larger business called Active Forever.

They used the money from the sale to purchase a large motor home and together and spent three years exploring Oregon and Washington State. There, they hosted in campgrounds; Aldean worked in the gift shops while Gene gave tours through the lighthouses. These trips unfortunately came to a halt with Aldean's death January 3, 2008. Click here to view her memorial.

Gene still travels with the motor home and expects to visit family members often. He will also again be active with the Sherriff's posse.

Kathleen's sister, Sherry is a wildlife and wilderness painter who specializes in oils, but also does chalk and pen drawings She is a professional cake decorator as well. Her talents are varied, but her love for her family and others is the center of all she does and all she dreams to do. She desires to open an assisted living home for seniors in Flagstaff.

Her brother, Steve does photographic art through the telescope. He also loves to travel and has had his share of parachuting and mountain climbing.

In youger years he worked with his dad with Mountain Search and Rescue. Steve lives in Kingman and works with the Chrysler corporation as a mechanic and trainer, as well as a test driver. It is on these drives he often sees something worth catching on film and is sure to bring his camera along for the opportunity. Click on this link to view his Arizona Nights photography website.

Kathleen's cousin, Kenneth carves ocean-life and under-water scenes out of a beautifully grained dark wood.

Her cousin, Darla also finds creativity in sewing and home decorating. She has a home business developing custom-made slipcovers for upholstered furniture. Her husband is retired from the military and they now pastor a Baptist church in Florida. They have two grown daughters they home-schooled who are active in music and ministry.
