And
after all is said and done, what if...
I
can't find my website in the search engines. What's
up?
New
objectives, or rules, are being developed every
day by
search engine companies which
decide who gets to the top and who doesn't- most
of them based on them making lots of money. I try
to get around that to save you money by going around
their expensive pay-per-click offers. Of course,
if you want that we can take them up on their offer
at the best price possible.
Using
only the optimization method is more time-consuming
when it comes to getting it "on the air."
The search engines have had a lot of trouble with
"spam" sites, or offensive sites being
optimized to catch people unaware. An example might
be a site that is named something like "PuppiesAreUs"
and optimized for the sale of puppies, then when
the person arrives at the site it has nothing to
do with puppies but is offensive in nature. Sometimes
they will put puppies on their site long enough
to get onto the search engines, then after they
feel secure they will change their content to offensive
content but leave it optimized for puppies.
So
to prevent this from happening the search engines
might put it up for a week or so, then put it in
what's affectionately called "the sandbox."
A new site can be in the sandbox for months sometimes,
to make sure it doesn't change.
Search
engines also check the content of the page to make
sure it matches with their keywords and description.
Therefore, sites that have a lot of keywords written
into the text of their page get higher ranking by
the Search Engines, and the longer your site is
up there the higher ranking you can receive.
Your
competition also is a concern in getting you up
on the first page of the search engine. For many
professions "Directories" advertise themselves
as local and get in the way of true local websites.
If this is a problem for your site you might want
to add your site to some of those top-ranking directories.
Also, competitive websites can be a problem, especially
if your potential customer isn't worried about looking
for a local business but something that can be purchased
nationwide.
If
your business is a local business in Payson and
your customers are mostly "Paysonites,"
it is usually not a problem. We can usually get
you up on the first page for your business located
in Payson for those who place Payson, or even Rim
Country in the search engines.
At
any rate, to help the SEs get your site listed as
quickly as possible we do an evaluation of your
keywords and keyword phrases to see what people
are typing in compared to the competition for that
keyword. Then using that data, we place heavily
keyworded titles and descriptions in the code along
with the most often typed in keywords and keyword
phrases. I make sure those words are being used
in the text on the page, and I then manually submit
your site to various search engines and directories.
The indexing process can take some time but you
should get some attention without the heavy cost
of their pay-per-click promotions, especially if
the following "roadblocks" are addressed.
Three
main items affect your site ranking:
