Website Optimization:

When you first go online your site is known as a "ghost site." That is, it is there but nobody knows about it. They find out about it through your advertising and from online Internet searches, links and banner ads that are on other websites.

Preparing your website for the search engines is called Website Optimization. After your site is ready for the public it is time to optimize it so others can find it. We offer this service as well.

Unlike many Search Engine Optimization professionals we don't just optimize for one or two keywords, but by the page. Most websites have different information on different pages, so each main page is optimized for people looking for that specific information. Each of these pages are called "landing pages." Your visitor, who types in keywords set up for the information on your landing page, comes in, not by your home page, but on your landing page. These unique pages can be set up as a hook, not only to give your visitor the information they are looking for but also to introduce them to other things you offer as well.

Your landing pages can be set up to close your sale, or lead to a closing of the sale. This is why it is good for the person who is your Webmaster to also be your SEO (search engine optimization) professional. The two processes go hand-in-hand. The wording on your pages need to support optimization of that page, and visa-versa. An SEO who is not able to change your site pages layout and wording is very limited in what they can do, considering these new changes in the search engines, which brings limited results. Therefore, it is always better to have a Webmaster that also knows SEO techniques.

The Internet is always changing, so it is important that your Webmaster/SEO keep up on the latest information. Here at Computer Creations we watch the search engines very closely, and can set up a monthly plan for you where your website will be checked for optimization results and adjusted monthly to keep up with those changes.

The cost for optimization will depend on how many pages your site consists of and how many you want your customers to land on when coming in from the search engines. Each "landing page" should have enough information to introduce your customer to the product he or she is looking for and either close the sale or lead them to other information which will accomplish that goal.

And after all is said and done, what if...

I can't find my website in the search engines. What's up?
New objectives, or rules, are being developed every day by search engine companies which decide who gets to the top and who doesn't- most of them based on them making lots of money. I try to get around that to save you money by going around their expensive pay-per-click offers. Of course, if you want that we can take them up on their offer at the best price possible.

Using only the optimization method is more time-consuming when it comes to getting it "on the air." The search engines have had a lot of trouble with "spam" sites, or offensive sites being optimized to catch people unaware. An example might be a site that is named something like "PuppiesAreUs" and optimized for the sale of puppies, then when the person arrives at the site it has nothing to do with puppies but is offensive in nature. Sometimes they will put puppies on their site long enough to get onto the search engines, then after they feel secure they will change their content to offensive content but leave it optimized for puppies.

So to prevent this from happening the search engines might put it up for a week or so, then put it in what's affectionately called "the sandbox." A new site can be in the sandbox for months sometimes, to make sure it doesn't change.

Search engine "spiders" ( a name we call the type of computer programs from search engine companies that check all of the websites) also check the content of the page to make sure it matches with their keywords and description. Therefore, sites that have a lot of keywords written into the text of their page get higher ranking by the Search Engines, and the longer your site is up there the higher ranking you can receive.

Your competition also is a concern in getting you up on the first page of the search engine. For many professions "Directories" advertise themselves as local and get in the way of true local websites. If this is a problem for your site you might want to add your site to some of those top-ranking directories. Also, competitive websites can be a problem, especially if your potential customer isn't worried about looking for a local business but something that can be purchased nationwide.

If your business is a local business in Payson and your customers are mostly "Paysonites," it is usually not a problem. We can usually get you up on the first page for your business located in Payson for those who place Payson, or even Rim Country in the search engines.

At any rate, to help the search engines get your site listed as quickly as possible we do an evaluation of your keywords and keyword phrases to see what people are typing in compared to the competition for that keyword. Then using that data, we place heavily keyworded titles and descriptions in the code along with the most often typed in keywords and keyword phrases. I make sure those words are being used in the text on the page, and I then manually submit your site to the search engines. The indexing process can take some time but you should get some attention without the heavy cost of their pay-per-click promotions, especially if the following "roadblocks" are addressed.

Three main items affect your site ranking:

Lots of text on your pages: If you have a lot of text on your page that carries your description and keywords you will rank higher. This way the search engines can be relatively sure you aren't trying to attract people to sites not related to what's in the title and description in the code.
URL- (Website Name) wording. If your website URL had major keywords in it that people are putting into the search engines you will rank higher on the search engines.
Link popularity is also a big factor: Many search engines weigh in the number of sites that link to yours in deciding your ranking. The more links you have from other sites, the higher your ranking.
Longevity of a site also has a role to play. So the longer your site is up there the higher it will rank on the engines. Again, the search engines want to make sure you are not a "fake" or fly-by-nite site.

By addressing all of these issues we can get your website the exposure it needs, however, if your market has lots and lots of competition you may consider the pay-per-click offers worth a try. I know someone who did it and it paid off greatly, bringing them many, many sales, and that little online business is now a million-dollar business in only a few short years.

You will also want to make sure you advertise your website as much as possible by having it on every advertisement and on your business card. Many people will go look at your website before they decide to order from you, and your website is the best advertisement they will ever see.
